Due to COVID we have created a video to replace in-classroom learning.  We do ask that teachers use the Contact us form to let us know the name of the school and how many students watched the video for tracking purposes.

Environmental educators from WMWA are available to implement free lessons on watersheds and water quality in fourth grade classrooms at public and private schools. The one hour long lessons meet the Minnesota State Science Standards and can be tailored for each school.

Schools located with the Bassett Creek, Elm Creek, Shingle Creek and West Mississippi watersheds can request environmental educators to implement the following lessons free of charge. Schools outside of our member watersheds may request WMWA educators, but a reimbursement may be needed.

WMWA educators have two classes that can be tailored to schools' needs. The lessons include a presentation and a fun, hands-on activity:

  • What is a Watershed and Why Do We Care? - Includes an overview of the concept of a watershed, a look at the watershed where the school is located and an exploration of the pollutants found in a watershed and how to reduce their impact.

  • The Water Cycle: An Incredible Journey - Explore the movement of water, the states of water and how water is polluted and cleansed as it moves through the cycle

WMWA educators are also available to help you implement community and service learning projects, plan a school events and develop additional water-themed lessons.

WMWA's "Ten Things You Can Do" Brochure shows what families can do to protect and improve local water quality. Each student receives a copy to take home at the end of the lesson.

Contact us for more information or to request an educator at your school.
