Turn Your Yard Into a Pollinator Haven, One Step at a Time
Ready to support pollinators in your own yard—but not sure where to start (or what to do next)?
WMWA supports the Minnesota Lawns to Legumes program. Native plants that nourish our pollinators have another benefit – they can improve water quality. Most native plants have long root systems that reduce erosion and improve soil health. They are great for encouraging rain to soak into the soil and reduce stormwater runoff. This reduces the sediment and nutrients that runoff carries to the nearest lake, stream, or wetland.
Lawns to Legumes: Habitat at Home is a free, guided program from Blue Thumb and Lawns to Legumes that helps Minnesotans create, expand, or care for pollinator-friendly spaces—step by step, and alongside a community of others doing the same.
What is Lawns to Legumes: Habitat at Home?
Lawns to Legumes: Habitat at Home is a five-month, do-it-together program designed to support you through every stage of a pollinator habitat project.
Whether you’re starting from scratch, adding to an existing garden, or maintaining a mature planting, you’ll receive guidance, resources, and encouragement to help your habitat thrive. This new approach is based on the highly successful Lawns to Legumes program, a collaborative state-funded effort administered by Blue Thumb and the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR).
